In 2002, a few years after a major life shift, I decided to change directions and go into real estate, which I guess was always at the back of my mind. Before I took the course, I went to a Real Estate open house being put on by CREB for new people to meet brokerages. I spoke with a few of the major names in town, and they all dodged or vaguely answered my questions, which I now realize they had to do because they didn’t know what I was prepared to do, and they didn’t want to make promises. After not getting straight answers on what it would take to “get going” in real estate, I hit the CIR booth, and the training manager tricked me into giving my phone number so he could call me and invite me into free training to get started. 

No one else offered anything like this. It was a lifeline as I had no idea how to start… I was off to the races pretty quickly, and with CIR’s tech, I could see I was way ahead of others who started at the same time as I did. Fast forward almost 23 years later, and I have had no reason to leave CIR. I would like to share why I chose CIR Realty.
My story will likely be different than most other agents, as my reason was not really a matter of choice at the time but a matter of convenience. I was with a small boutique brokerage (Beacon Realty) prior to joining CIR, but I would still likely be there if the management group at CIR hadn’t offered my broker, Mathew Wiebe, a broker position with CIR. Matt is a great and knowledgeable young man, and kudos to Lindsay Smith and the team for reaching out to and hiring him. I have worked with Matt for close to 20 years, so when CIR hired him, it was a no-brainer to follow him to CIR. I have been a realtor since 1983 and have worked for a few brokerages. I remember when CIR opened; I always kind of stayed away from the larger brokerages, mainly because I liked the small office feeling. But the way real estate has changed over the years, agents don’t go into the offices anymore. So, what you need is support, which you have with CIR—brokers on call to answer questions at almost any time.

My journey to joining CIR Realty/Team Blue was a unique and memorable experience that I will always treasure as one of the best career decisions I’ve ever made. Why did you choose CIR REALTY when you were looking for a brokerage? I chose CIR Realty because I was working as an administrator with a CIR team. I had seen the virtual office and all of the online resources, training, and systems, and I remember thinking, ‘I can’t imagine that any other brokerage can beat this.’ I did interview with a couple of other brokerages, out of interest, and sure enough, none of them came close to demonstrating the value that CIR offers. I was a new agent, and I wanted structured training and on-demand support when I needed it.

What has kept you here over the years, even when other opportunities came up? I have too many reasons to stay and no reason to leave. I believe that CIR puts me in the best position to grow my business. There are systems that help me streamline my processes. There is a ton of quality training, and the management team is extremely quick to respond to questions; they are helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Yes, I may be able to find a brokerage with lower monthly fees, but I would be getting less in return. I know this would impact my efficiency and therefore reduce my income. I have found that quite often, lower monthly fees don’t necessarily mean that agents pay less money to the brokerage overall. Other brokerages often take a bigger split of the transaction fee itself or you ‘cap out’ at a higher rate. Even if the rates are lower, it isn’t by much, and the resources and support that CIR provides are well worth it.

What is one thing CIR provides that has made a big difference in your success? The Quick Connect tool is something that I never want to do without. I get instant support from someone on the management team. How has the support, training, or community at CIR impacted your business? The training has been great for my professional and personal development. The classes have taught me not only how to buy and sell houses but also how to run and grow a business. When I was looking for a brokerage, I really wanted a place where I felt supported and safe after feeling unsafe at my last team/brokerage.
